東京へ歸つて見ると、松飾はいつか取拂はれてゐた。町は寒い風の吹くに任せて、何處を見ても是といふ程の正月めいた景氣はなかつた。

translation

When I returned to Tokyo, I found that Matsukazari had been taken away some time ago. The town let the cold wind blow, and everywhere I looked there was no New Year's atmosphere.
