私は奧さんの理解力に感心した。奧さんの態度が舊式の日本の女らしくない所も私の注意に一種の刺戟を與へた。それで奧さんは其頃流行り始めた所謂新らしい言葉などは殆んど使はなかつた。

I was impressed with Oku-san's understanding. The fact that Oku-san's demeanor was not that of an old-fashioned Japanese woman also gave a kind of stimulus to my attention. As a result, she hardly used the so-called new words that were becoming popular around that time.
