私はもう少し先迄同じ道を辿つて行きたかつた。すると襖の陰で「あなた、あなた」といふ奧さんの聲が二度聞こえた。先生は二度目に「何だい」といつた。奧さんは「一寸」と先生を次の間へ呼んだ。二人の間に何んな用事が起つたのか、私には解らなかつた。それを想像する餘裕を與へない程早く先生は又座敷へ歸つて來た。

translation

I wanted to follow the same path a little further. Then, behind the fusuma, I heard my wife say twice, "You, you." Sensei asked for the second time, "What is it?" Oku-san called Sensei to the next room. I didn't understand what business was going on between them. Sensei returned to the tatami room so quickly that I didn't even have time to think about it.
