學校の授業が始まるにはまだ大分日數があるので、鎌倉に居つても可し、歸つても可いといふ境遇にゐた私は、當分元の宿に留まる覺悟をした。友達は中國のある資産家の息子で金に不自由のない男であつたけれども、學校が學校なのと年が年なので、生活の程度は私とさう變りもしなかつた。從つて一人坊ちになつた私は別に恰好な宿を探す面倒も有たなかつたのである。

There were still a few days before the start of school classes, so I was in a situation where I could stay in Kamakura or return home, so I decided to stay at the original inn. My friend was the son of a wealthy Chinese man who had no shortage of money, but since he went to school and was older than me, his standard of living was not much different from mine. As a result, being alone, I didn't have the trouble of looking for a suitable lodging.
