次の日私は先生の後につゞいて海へ飛び込んだ。さうして先生と一所の方角に泳いで行つた。二丁程沖へ出ると、先生は後を振り返つて私に話し掛けた。廣い蒼い海の表面に浮いてゐるものは、其近所に私等二人より外になかつた。さうして強い太陽の光が、眼の屆く限り水と山とを照らしてゐた。私は自由と歡喜に充ちた筋肉を動かして海の中で躍り狂つた。先生は又ぱたりと手足の運動を已めて仰向になつた儘浪の上に寐た。私も其眞似をした。青空の色がぎら／＼と眼を射るやうに痛烈な色を私の顏に投げ付けた。「愉快ですね」と私は大きな聲を出した。
translation
The next day I jumped into the sea following my teacher. Sensei and I swam in one direction. About two blocks offshore, Sensei turned around and spoke to me. Only the two of us were floating on the surface of the wide blue sea nearby. The strong sunlight was shining on the water and mountains as far as the eye could see. I danced wildly in the sea, moving my muscles full of freedom and joy. Sensei suddenly stopped moving his arms and legs and fell asleep on his back. I imitated him. The color of the blue sky threw a sharp color into my face as if it was shooting my eyes. "It's a pleasure," I exclaimed.
