五六日經つた後、奥さんは突然私に向つて、Kにあの事を話したかと聞くのです。私はまだ話さないと答へました。すると何故話さないのかと、奥さんが私を詰るのです。私は此問の前に固くなりました。其時奥さんが私を驚ろかした言葉を、私は今でも忘れずに覺えてゐます。

translation

After fifty-six days, Okusan suddenly turned to me and asked if I had told K about that. I replied that I would not speak yet. Then my wife asked me why I didn't talk. I stiffened before this question. Even now, I still remember the words that surprised me at that time.
