translation
A couple of days after that, my wife and daughter left home saying they were going to visit relatives in Ichigaya in the morning. Both K and I hadn't started school yet, so we were left together. I didn't like reading books or going for walks, so I just vaguely rested my elbows on the rim of the brazier, leaning my head against my head and thinking. K, who was in the next room, didn't make a sound either. It was so quiet that I didn't know whether they were there or not. Of course, such things were nothing unusual in their relationship, so I paid no particular attention to them.
