私もさう思つてゐた。懷中した手紙は其儘にして又病室へ歸つた。父は眼を開けて、そこに竝んでゐる人の名前を母に尋ねた。母があれは誰、これは誰と一々説明して遣ると、父は其度に首肯いた。首肯かない時は、母が聲を張りあげて、何々さんです、分りましたかと念を押した。

translation

"I thought so too." The letter, which had been canceled, was returned to the hospital room. My father opened his eyes and asked my mother the name of the person sitting there. When my mother explained who that was and who this was, my father nodded each time. When I didn't give my consent, my mother raised her voice and asked me if I understood what you were doing.
