Kokoro, by Natsume Soseki (paragraph #1267)

translation

At that time, the newspapers in the countryside were filled with articles that could be expected every day. I sat at my father's bedside and read it to Zheng Ning. When I didn't have time to read it, I would quietly bring it to my room and read through it. For a long time, I could not forget the sight of General Nogi in military uniform and his wife, dressed like a court lady.
