Kokoro, by Natsume Soseki (paragraph #1268)

translation

A sorrowful wind blew all the way to the corner of the countryside, shaking the sleepy trees and grass when I suddenly received a telegram from Sensei. In a place where dogs would bark at the sight of people in clothes, even one telegram was a big deal. When my mother received it, she looked as if she was really surprised and deliberately called me to a place where there were no people.
