御孃さんの部屋は茶の間と續いた六疊でした。奥さんはその茶の間にゐる事もあるし、又御孃さんの部屋にゐる事もありました。つまり此二つの部屋は仕切があつても、ないと同じ事で、親子二人が往つたり來たりして、どつち付かずに占領してゐたのです。私が外から聲を掛けると、『御這入なさい』と答へるのは屹度奥さんでした。御孃さんは其所にゐても滅多に返事をした事がありませんでした。
