二人は又奧の方へ進んだ。然しそこにも人影は見えなかつた。躑躅が燃えるやうに咲き亂れてゐた。先生はそのうちで樺色の丈の高いのを指して、「是は霧島でせう」と云つた。

translation

The two of them proceeded to the other side. But there was no figure to be seen there either. The azaleas were blooming like fire. Sensei pointed out a tall birch tree and said, "Let's go to Kirishima."
