母は死にました。私と妻はたつた二人ぎりになりました。妻は私に向つて、是から世の中で頼りにするものは一人しかなくなつたと云ひました。自分自身さへ頼りにする事の出來ない私は、妻の顏を見て思はず涙ぐみました。さうして妻を不幸な女だと思ひました。又不幸な女だと口へ出しても云ひました。妻は何故だと聞きます。妻には私の意味が解らないのです。私もそれを説明してやる事が出來ないのです。妻は泣きました。私が不斷からひねくれた考で彼女を觀察してゐるために、そんな事を云ふやうになるのだと恨みました。
translation
"My mother died." My wife and I were left alone. My wife turned to me and said that from now on there was only one person in the world to rely on. Unable to rely on myself, I involuntarily burst into tears when I saw my wife's face. Thus, I thought of my wife as an unhappy woman. She also said that she was an unhappy woman. My wife asks me why. My wife doesn't understand what I mean. I can't explain it either. my wife cried. I resented her for saying such things to me because I was looking at her with a crooked thought.
