私は午頃又茶の間へ出掛けて行つて、奥さんに、今朝の話を御孃さんに何時通じてくれる積かと尋ねました。奥さんは、自分さへ承知してゐれば、いつ話しても構はなからうといふやうな事を云ふのです。斯うなると何んだか私よりも相手の方が男見たやうなので、私はそれぎり引き込まうとしました。すると奥さんが私を引き留めて、もし早い方が希望ならば、今日でも可い、稽古から歸つて來たら、すぐ話さうと云ふのです。さうして貰ふ方が都合が好いと答へて又自分の室に歸りました。然し默つて自分の机の前に坐つて、二人のこそ／＼話を遠くから聞いてゐる私を想像して見ると、何だか落ち付いてゐられないやうな氣もするのです。私はとう／＼帽子を被つて表へ出ました。さうして又坂の下で御孃さんに行き合ひました。何にも知らない御孃さんは私を見て驚ろいたらしかつたのです。私が帽子を脱つて『今御歸り』と尋ねると、向ふではもう病氣は癒つたのかと不思議さうに聞くのです。私は『えゝ癒りました、癒りました』と答へて、ずん／＼水道橋の方へ曲つてしまひました。
translation
I went out to the tea room again around noon and asked Okusan when she would be able to talk to her daughter about what had happened this morning. Okusan said that as long as she was aware of it, it would be fine to talk about it at any time. For some reason, the other person looked more like a man than I did, so I tried to draw him in. Then Okusan stopped me and said that if it would be better if it was sooner, even today would be fine, and that we could talk as soon as we got back from rehearsal. I replied that it would be more convenient for me to do so, and went back to my room. But when I imagine myself sitting quietly at my desk listening to the two of them talk from afar, I feel like I can't calm down. Finally I put on my hat and came out. And so, at the bottom of Matasaka, I ran into the daughter. The daughter, who didn't know anything, seemed surprised to see me. When I took off my hat and asked, "You're back now," the other side asked me curiously if I had recovered from my illness. I replied, "Well, I'm healed, I'm healed."
