午食の時、Kと私は向ひ合せに席を占めました。下女に給仕をして貰つて、私はいつにない不味い飯を濟ませました。二人は食事中も殆んど口を利きませんでした。奥さんと御孃さんは何時歸るのだか分りませんでした。

At lunchtime, K and I sat face to face. I had a maid wait on me, and I had an unusually unpleasant meal. They barely spoke during the meal. I didn't know when my wife and daughter would return.
