「Kはあまり旅へ出ない男でした。私にも房州は始てでした。二人は何にも知らないで、船が一番先へ着いた所から上陸したのです。たしか保田とか云ひました。今では何んなに變つてゐるか知りませんが、其頃は非道い漁村でした。第一何處も彼處も腥さいのです。それから海へ入ると、波に押し倒されて、すぐ手だの足だのを擦り剥くのです。拳のやうな大きな石が打ち寄せる波に揉まれて、始終ごろ/\してゐるのです。

translation

"K didn't travel much. It was my first time in Boshu. The two of us didn't know anything, and landed at the place where the ship arrived first. I think Yasuda. I don't know what has changed now, but in those days it was a wicked fishing village. I was rubbed by the fist-like stones of the waves that crashed against me, and I was constantly crouching.
