夕飯の時、御孃さんは私を變な人だと云ひました。私は其時も何故變なのか聞かずにしまひました。たゞ奥さんが睨めるやうな眼を御孃さんに向けるのに氣が付いた丈でした。

translation

"At dinner, my daughter called me a strange person." Even then, I didn't ask why the change was made. I could not help but notice that his wife was glaring at the daughter.
