奥さんと御孃さんは、親切に彼の荷物を片付ける世話や何かをして呉れました。凡てそれを私に對する好意から來たのだと解釋した私は、心のうちで喜びました。――Kが相變らずむつちりした樣子をしてゐるにも拘はらず。

translation

His wife and daughter were kind enough to help him unpack and do other things. When I understood that it was all out of kindness toward me, I was overjoyed. ——even though K was still acting sullen.
