父は明らかに自分の病氣を恐れてゐた。然し醫者の來るたびに蒼蠅い質問を掛けて相手を困らす質でもなかつた。醫者の方でも亦遠慮して何とも云はなかつた。

translation

My father was clearly afraid of his illness. However, he wasn't the type to embarrass the other person by asking vulgar questions whenever the doctor came. The doctor was also reserved and said nothing.
